Thoughts on AI, the tech stack, and the indie hacker journey.
OpenLogi topped the Hacker News front page on August 19 with 1,507 points, beating every AI story that day. It configures a mouse. The structure behind that result is reproducible, and most of it is on the landing page.
Ornith-1.5 shipped in three sizes on August 19. The flagship matches Claude Opus 4.8 on Terminal-Bench. The one that actually changes something for a solo builder is the 9B, because of where it runs and what the license lets you do with it.
In June I wrote that vendor neutrality is a strategy, not a property, and that it transfers with the cap table. Qualcomm just did the opposite of what that predicted. Here is what the Apache 2.0 release actually covers, and the part that is still controlled.
The sunset date was August 18 and v2.1 endpoints now return HTTP 410. Manual uploads, scheduled fetches, and Google Sheets feeds keep working. Ten minutes tells you which side of that line you are on.
Origin rolled out Monday morning. GitHub's error rates hit 20% the same afternoon and stayed degraded until 21:15 UTC. The outage is a case for redundancy, not for moving your remote to the company that also sells you your editor.
Tracked memory prices are up roughly 500% in twelve months, with some kits at ten times their own record lows. That is the exact hardware people were speccing for local inference, and it reverses advice that was defensible in January.
Spirit went under and its data went to auction: about 100 million emails, 500 million Teams messages, 7.2 billion competitor flight prices. Bankruptcy is a data transfer event, and the clause that permits it is sitting in the boilerplate you copied.
Input dropped from $5 to $2.50 per million tokens, output from $30 to $15, applied automatically with no code change. It runs on OpenRouter and Vercel AI Gateway only, and it expires. Which two platforms got the discount is the interesting part.
Instant Checkout ran about five months and had roughly 30 Shopify merchants when it was pulled. eBay wrote agents out of its user agreement in the same window. Five months on, here is where the useful work actually is.
