TimeMark is built by one person. I read every email and try to reply within two working days. For bugs, it helps to include your device model, iOS or Android version, the app version (Settings, at the bottom) and what you were doing when it happened.

Common questions
  1. Recording
  2. Fixing mis-taps
  3. Exporting
  4. Templates
  5. Backups and new devices
  6. TimeMark Pro
  7. Deleting data

Recording

How do I start a session?

Tap New Session, optionally type a name, pick a template and tap Start. The timer starts immediately. Tap buttons as things happen, then tap the red stop button to save. To repeat your last setup, use the Again link under New Session.

Why did tapping one button turn another one off?

That's an exclusive button. Exclusive buttons in the same group behave like radio buttons: starting Student Talk ends Teacher Talk. Overlap and toggle buttons run independently, and point buttons log a single instant. You can see or change a button's type in the template editor.

Can a session stop on its own?

Yes. Turn on Timed session in the New Session sheet and choose a length. The session stops and saves itself when time is up. If the phone was locked at that moment, it ends at exactly the chosen length rather than when you unlock.

The app closed while I was recording.

TimeMark keeps a copy of a session in progress. Open the app again and it will ask whether to save the unfinished session or discard it. Choose Save to keep everything recorded up to that point.

Will the screen lock while I'm recording?

No. TimeMark keeps the screen awake while the recording screen is open, and lets it sleep normally again once you stop. If you lock the phone yourself or switch apps, the timer keeps real time, so the session's times stay correct.

Fixing mis-taps

While recording, the undo button reverses your last tap. After the session, open it, tap the edit button at the top right and choose Edit events. There you can relabel an event, nudge its start or end in 0.1 second steps, split it in two, delete it, or add one you missed. Rename & note in the same menu changes the session name and lets you add notes.

Exporting

How do I get my data out?

Open a session, choose CSV, JSON or Image at the bottom, and tap Export. The share sheet opens. On iPhone, choose Save to Files to keep the file on your device or in iCloud Drive, or send it with AirDrop, Mail or Messages. On Android, save it to Google Drive or Files, or send it by email or any other app.

What's in each format?

You can change which format is selected by default in Settings.

Templates

Can I make my own button board?

Yes, with TimeMark Pro. In the Templates tab, tap + to start from scratch, or tap a built-in template and choose Duplicate & Edit to edit a copy. You choose each button's label, colour, type and group, and reorder them (drag on iPhone; tap Edit, then the arrows, on Android).

How do I share a template with a colleague?

In the Templates tab, swipe a template (iPhone) or open its menu (Android) and tap Share to send it as a .json file. Templates work across both platforms. Your colleague opens the same screen and taps Import from file (importing needs Pro). This is the easiest way to get a whole team recording with the same buttons.

Backups and new devices

Your sessions are included in your normal device backup (iCloud or computer backup on iPhone, Google backup on Android). For a copy you control, go to Settings, then Backup & data safety, then Export all sessions and save the file somewhere the new device can reach (Files, iCloud Drive or Google Drive). On the new device, import it from the same screen. Backups work between iPhone and Android in both directions. Importing never deletes anything: sessions already on the device are kept, and matching ones are updated.

I deleted the app and lost my sessions.

TimeMark stores data only on your device, so I have no copy to restore. If you had a device backup from before you deleted it, restoring that backup brings the sessions back. Regular exports are the best protection for work you care about.

TimeMark Pro

How do I restore Pro on a new device?

Open Settings in the app and tap Restore purchases while signed in with the Apple ID (iPhone) or the Google account in Google Play (Android) you bought it with. The app tells you whether it found your purchase. Purchases belong to the store you bought from: buying on the App Store doesn't unlock the Android app, and buying on Google Play doesn't unlock the iPhone app.

How does the free trial work?

Choose the yearly plan and tap Start 3-day free trial. Every feature is unlocked straight away. If you keep it, the yearly price is charged when the trial ends. To avoid that, cancel before it ends (on iPhone, at least 24 hours before): in the app, Settings then Manage subscription; on iPhone, Settings, your name, Subscriptions; on Android, the Google Play app, your profile, Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions. Apple allows one free trial per Apple ID, and Google Play one per Google account.

Can I use TimeMark without paying?

There's no free tier, but the 3-day trial unlocks everything, so you can try it on a real session first. You can also try the recording screen in your browser on the TimeMark page, no download needed.

Is Pro a subscription?

You choose. Lifetime is paid once and never renews. The Yearly and Weekly plans are subscriptions that renew until you cancel. All three unlock exactly the same features.

How do I cancel a subscription?

In the app, open Settings and tap Manage subscription. On iPhone you can also open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions; on Android, open the Google Play app, tap your profile, then Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions. Cancel before the period ends to avoid the next charge (on iPhone, at least 24 hours before); Pro keeps working until the end of the period you've paid for. If you bought Lifetime while subscribed, cancel the subscription too, because buying Lifetime doesn't stop it.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by the store you bought from: Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, or Google through Google Play's refund page. I never see your payment details, so I can't issue them directly.

I asked a parent to approve the purchase.

With Ask to Buy on iPhone, or a pending payment or family approval on Google Play, the app shows that it is waiting. Pro unlocks by itself as soon as the purchase is approved; you don't need to buy again.

Deleting data

Swipe a session left, or press and hold it, to delete it (on Android you can also delete it from the session's menu). Individual events can be deleted in the session editor. Deleting the app removes all TimeMark data from the device, and since nothing is stored anywhere else, that's everything.
